Volunteering
Tutor young South African
learners from ANYWHERE!
Is this you?
- You want to make a difference but don’t know how.
- You want to feel connected to the good you do.
- You lead a busy life and don’t have much time to give.
- You want to help, but you live in another country.
- You want every minute you give to be meaningful.
- You want to see results of the change you are making.
Why volunteer?
- It is efficient, measurable, safe and easy to use
- You are directly connected to the good you do
- You will support children in their reading journey
- You can tutor from ANYWHERE
- No preparation is needed - all material and information is supplied
Check out how easy our
volunteering process is here:
- Sign up to be a volunteer (you will then receive a welcome email with next steps)
- Complete a 1 hour tutor training session
- Fill out our volunteer contract - required by law when working with kids
Once you’ve been accepted on the app:
- Every morning you will receive an email with the day's link that you need to click on in order to connect to learners
- Each reading session is a maximum of 30 minutes and is during school hours (08:00 - 14:00, SAST)
- Volunteers will either assist learners to complete a reading assessment or listen to them reading their latest book and support where possible
- We encourage tutors to strive for at least one session per week to make a meaningful impact on a child's reading development
About our tutor training webinars
We have 2 tutor training webinars every week – please join whichever day suits you best (you only need to join one).
During this training you will learn how to use the app, what to expect, and some tips and tricks for when reading with the kids.
Please sign up as a volunteer before attending training.
Tuesday mornings @ 10:00 (SAST / GMT+2)
Wednesday afternoons @ 15:00 (SAST / GMT+2)
About our session links
A daily link is sent out, allowing learners and tutors to log in throughout the school day.
If you have 30 minutes to spare, click on the link, connect to a learner and help them with their reading online.
Links are South African Standard Time (SAST) / GMT+2.
